Becoming an editor- what should I take as major ?

What would be a better major for me if I want to become an editor : English and creative writing or Journalism?

Thanks in advance.

Having studied Creative Writing and Journalism (and a few editing classes), I can tell you that will acquire editing tools taking either major, but the Journalism aspect of editing is different from that of creative writing, as they serve different puposes. While the first has to maintain structure, tone and content, the latter must reach the lowest common reader, maintain content but also stick to the point. Just try and think what you want to do in the long run, and choose accordingly. Good luck!

Life's not what we think it is. (blog)

as Tal said, it depends on what type of content you want to edit. I reckon that it doesn't matter which one you study, you need to have a born talent and a good attitude (and ofcourse knowing the right people helps) and you can be whatever you like these days. well, except for a doctor...

I guess journalism is the most relevant major for your career as an editor.

English and creative writing is better for novelist or poet and so on.
